About Penbakes

When we opened Penbakes Eats and Treats in Penmaenmawr, we didn’t just want to create somewhere people could come and buy food. We wanted to create somewhere people felt welcome.

A place where someone could pop in for a coffee and a chat, where families could enjoy time together, where locals could meet, and where visitors to our beautiful corner of North Wales could experience a little bit of what makes this town special.

Running an independent café has been one of the most rewarding things we have ever done, but it has also come with its challenges. The reality of running a small business is very different from what people see from the outside. There are early starts, late finishes, busy days, difficult decisions, rising costs and the constant pressure of wanting to give people the best experience possible.

But then there are the moments that remind us why we started.

The familiar faces who walk through the door, the customers who become friends, the conversations that make us laugh, the people who tell us how much they enjoy coming in, and the feeling that we are becoming part of the fabric of Penmaenmawr.

That is what matters most.

 Penmaenmawr is a town with a huge amount of character. Like many communities, it has seen changes and challenges, but what makes it special is the people. The pride, kindness and determination of those who live here are what keep the town moving forward.

We feel incredibly lucky to be part of that.

Penbakes is not just about food and drinks. It is about people. It is about creating somewhere that feels comfortable and friendly. It is about our team, who bring their hard work, personality and care into the café every day. It is about our customers, many of whom have supported us, encouraged us and helped us grow.

Every small business has difficult days. There are times when you question yourself, when things feel overwhelming and when you wonder if all the hard work is worth it.

Then someone walks through the door, tells you they love what you do, or shares a kind word, and you remember exactly why you began.
